A delegation of four DGT Alumni Association (DGTAA) members were present on Thursday, February 14, at the 107th Annual Conference of the College Arts Association (CAA). The Conference took place at the New York Hilton, Midtown, February 13 -16. Two DGT Members, Laura Arike, a Junior in Art History at Pratt Institute, and Gil Gerald (BArch ‘74), Secretary of DGTAA and President of DGT Foundation participated on the CAA 2nd Annual panel on Artists’ Space-Making Initiatives. Gallery House’s innovative approach was well received although it contrasted in important ways with the other solutions and experiences expressed on this year’s panel regarding approaches to creating and building spaces for artists. The experience of participating in the panel represented a step forward in establishing stronger connections between Gallery House and other efforts in New York to create and preserve affordable artists living and workspaces. Other DGT Members present were Josh Yavelberg (BFA/MA Art History ‘02), and Tom Fiorella (Industrial Engineering ‘74), President of DGTAA. Dr. Yavelberg, who regularly attends CAA’s annual conferences, submitted the abstract leading to the inclusion of Gallery House on the panel. Laura Arike is Gallery House’s current Lead Coach/Program Coordinator.
